For decades, the UK and the USA have had a special relationship. British and American forces have served alongside in World War Two and Korea and are now doing so in Iraq and Afghanistan.
BABFA
BABFA is a chapter of the Army Benevolent Fund (ABF), a UK Registered Charity. BABFA was launched in March 2007, as for many years the ABF has had a number of loyal supporters in America. BABFA is building on this connection, at first in New England.
BABFA has two tasks:
- To raise awareness of the charity's work
- To raise funds which are transfered to the UK. (Although any former British soldier living in America and in need of support is eligible to apply by contacting BABFA.)
How you can help
- Donations - give a one-off donation or make a regular donation either direct to ABF in the UK or to BABFA. (ABF is registered with CAF America. US taxpayers can receive a tax benefit if they give to a US 501 (c) (3) public charity.) A leaflet is available on request.
- Arrange events - however small – every little helps! You may even form a local BABFA fundraising event committee.
- Spread the word - amongst friends who would sympathize with BABFA's objectives
- Corporate sponsorship - encourage your Anglo-American Civil or Military organization (e.g. English-Speaking Union or British Officers Club) or corporation to donate or sponsor an event such as a lunch or dinner, a concert, garden party or lecture.
- Consider a Legacy - bequest to BABFA in your will.
- Ideas! - Write to Chairman Keith Taylor with your ideas and suggestions.
- Attend events - watch the BABFA website for upcoming events and come to see us! You will be most welcome.
